The largest, LEGALZOOM .COM INC., holds 126,258 of those — about 12%. The second-largest is close behind at 115,377. Counted from the top, the five largest about 50% and the ten largest about 74%. Five names therefore account for more than half of everything they represent. Reaching half of them takes 5 agents. California Secretary of State, Business Programs Division. Business entities on file with the California Secretary of State — domestic and qualified foreign corporations, LLCs and limited partnerships. Our search covers entities in Active, Suspended and Forfeited status (suspension and forfeiture are filing- and tax-compliance states, not dissolution) and excludes terminated, merged-out, converted-out and inactive records. General partnerships and LLPs are not included.

200 or more entities in this register — both conditions, so no
person is listed by volume alone and no small firm by name alone. Person-named agents are
never listed, regardless of volume, and an agent under the bar is absent from these figures
rather than counted in them. Counts are floors: California files the same agent under
varying punctuation and spelling, and variants merge only where the difference is
mechanical.
